Types of videos

Are you aiming to inspire, educate or entertain with your video campaigns? Raise awareness, engage and nurture, or convert viewers? And are they internal or external? No matter your goal or target audience, there’s a type of video to suit you; product videos, corporate videos, promotional videos, even product launch or event video production – you name it, we’ve helped make it happen for our clients!

Social videos

This short, sweet and stunningly simple concept for Pizza Express was shot as a vox pop on the streets of London, complete with double-decker red buses! The decision to edit and upload as a square video (1:1) meant compatibility across desktop and mobile screens was maximised, culminating in 100,000 views on Facebook within a month.

As you can see, a social post doesn’t need to be Hollywood-level to become a viral video. All you need is a great idea, and London’s cityscape to elevate it.

HR videos

Peakon is a real-time people analytics platform, and their ‘Life First’ values video is nothing short of authentic. With employee interviews speaking to the company’s culture of flexibility and well-being, this branded content showcases their London office and people with real warmth.

Pro tip: for organisations looking to boost their talent brand, this type of video is a skilled multi-tasker – from internal onboarding all the way through to your website’s careers page.

Corporate videos

One of LinkedIn’s first forays into video with Shootsta was this post – shot at their London HQ – based on the 2019 Workforce Insights survey and report. The video, featuring a senior leader ‘piece to camera’ and clean animations for visual impact, offers their top 3 insights for businesses in the UK pre-Brexit labour market.

It’s a great thought leadership piece that shows how easy it is to repurpose static documents into accompanying videos, to add value for a wider audience.

‘Welcome to Covent Garden’ (by us!)

This video was filmed at Shootsta’s London HQ and the surrounding streets of Covent Garden, and is a great example of using b-roll to your advantage. From the second shot of a ‘Covent Garden’ street sign (setting the scene), to the various cutaways that showcase the district’s vibrant character, videos like this give audiences an instant feel for setting and tone – and what they can expect from the video’s content.

3 Top Filming Locations in London

Tower Bridge via South Bank

When it comes to London’s bountiful architecture, nothing says heritage like a shot of Tower Bridge – one of the city’s most recognisable symbols. A simple way to achieve this is by filming on the South Bank of the River Thames, continuing west beyond Potters Fields Park. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even try a ‘walk and talk’ around the More London Riverside area for pan shots, trees and a glimpse of City Hall. To visit Tower Bridge, take the Underground (Tube) to London Bridge station on the south side; conversely, Tower Hill is your northern option.

Filming in London locations is managed by each borough and its
individual Borough Film Service (BFS) – visit the Film London website for information on permits.

Borough Markets

Continuing along the South Bank, discover one of London’s most famous markets – and the bustling backdrop to many a film. Video-wise, it’s also great for recording business updates or content related to connecting people, due to its busy vibe and large crowds. That said, background noise can be an issue, so go early (don’t worry, you’ll still get people-based shots) and check your audio. A good spot to film is the north-eastern entrance; it’s below the overpass, but it’s worth it – just pack a LED light! You can get there by catching the Tube to London Bridge.

Neal’s Yard

If Borough Markets isn’t vibrant enough, you might like Neal’s Yard (a.k.a. the ‘secret’ location that’s on everyone’s Instagram list). Neal’s Yard – a little street off Covent Garden’s Seven Dials – is famous for its ultra-colourful shopfronts, culminating in a courtyard that’s ‘ye olde London’ meets a box of crayons. So if you’re looking for something a little bit different, head to Neal’s Yard (do arrive early, as the little laneway does get busy). It’s a short walk from Covent Garden’s station.

As before, check with the relevant BFS (in this case, Covent Garden) for film permit information
