What Is Remote Video Editing?
Last updated 27 October 2026.
Remote video editing is editing done by professionals who work in a different place from the client. They receive footage online and send each edit back for review in the browser. Nobody has to visit an edit suite, and the client and editor can be in different countries.
It became the norm for business video once file transfer and online review got fast enough for large camera files. Most outsourced editing today is done this way.
What should you check before using a remote editor?
Ask how footage is sent and stored, who can see it and how long it is kept. For internal or sensitive videos, check that the provider signs NDAs and supports single sign-on (SSO) and role-based access.
Check the time zones too. An editor who works while your team sleeps can turn a video around overnight, but only if the brief is clear enough to work from without a call.
